ABOUT DRACAENA DEREMENSIS
Native to the tropical east Africa region, Dracaena “Craigii” is a large houseplant that has impressive shiny dark-green leaves and long tree-like stems that allow it to grow up to 10 ft. tall under the right conditions. Unlike the Dracaena Compacta variety, Dracaena deremensis can grow upward at much larger heights, making it a beautiful floor statement plant.
The Dracaena “Craigii” comes planted in a 9” wide pot and will stand at 3-4ft tall upon arrival.
Dracaena enjoys bright indirect light but can also tolerate low light areas. Keep your plant’s soil evenly moist while avoiding overwatering. Try and mist your plant every day to provide added humidity for your Dracaena.
When grown in lower light areas your Dracaena deremensis’s new leaves will grow narrow. When the soil is kept dry for too long the leaf tips may begin to turn brown. These plants are also sensitive to fluoride, so if you can you should prove non-fluoridated water.
Dracaena is one of the most effective houseplants for improving indoor air quality. Keeping Dracaena indoors can help remove formaldehyde, benzene, carbon dioxide, and trichloroethylene in the air.
LOOKING AFTER THE PLANT
Place your Dracaena in an area with plenty of bright indirect sunlight and provide a humid environment with daily misting. An area that is free of cold drafts is also ideal for you Dracaena to thrive. Water as needed but if you’re worried about overwatering, you should aim to allow the soil to dry slightly between watering’s.
PLANT CARE WITH PETS AND CHILDREN
Dracaena is toxic to both cats and dogs thanks to the chemical compound saponin found in the plant. If your pet ingests Dracaena it may result in vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, and loss of appetite.
