We all love a warm, wholesome bowl of pasta. It really is a reliable, delicious and easy staple for the pantry that vegans and non-vegans love! That’s why we love pasta products here at PlantX, because we know so many of us out there just can’t get enough of it.
So what is chickpea pasta? And why should we make the switch? Chickpea pasta is just like your well loved pasta - only it’s made of chickpeas! It comes in all the pasta and noodle shapes you know and love. It often uses chickpea flour, while some chickpea pastas also use other flours such as lentil flour or brown rice flour as well.
While chickpea pasta does have some health benefits over regular pasta (which we will explain below!), the main benefit of chickpea pasta is that many are naturally gluten free. People with gluten intolerances don’t have to feel left out of Italian night as long as there’s some chickpea pasta around!

Why Should I Eat Chickpea Pasta?
Chickpea pasta is often gluten free, so if you, or someone close to you, has a gluten free diet, switching to chickpea pasta will be a great alternative.
But there’s other great reasons to make the switch - even if you’re not gluten free. Even though normal wheat pasta can definitely be part of a healthy, balanced, vegan diet, chickpea pasta has some great benefits over regular pasta.
For example, chickpea pasta has higher levels of fibre and protein than regular wheat pasta, and also lower carb levels. Often, chickpea pasta contains minimal ingredients and doesn’t have any added sugar, saturated fat or cholesterol. It’s a great option for vegans because of the high protein and iron - two things that many people get from meat.
Legumes such as chickpeas are generally really good for us, and we should be incorporating them into our diets anyway. Not only that, chickpeas are affordable, sustainable and allergen friendly - meaning that this healthy ingredient is really accessible to a wide range of people.
