There are, however, some amazing combinations of ingredients that can help your body across the entire range of functions it needs to complete to survive, and thrive. As vegans, we have created a food combining vegan list that can help you achieve the best nutritional profile possible.

Lemon and Ginger
If you’ve never seen a product that is lemon and ginger flavored then where have you been? This classic flavor combination has reached new heights in the last few years. You can get it in tea, soft drinks, and even alcoholic cocktails these days! This food pairing is one of the most famous in the world by now.
Healthwise, this flavor combination has been used to soothe the digestive system and relieve symptoms of nausea. These two ingredients together have been thought to support the immune system, fighting and preventing seasonal illnesses like the flu or a common cold. This makes immune shots a real favorite!
Flavorwise, they pack a punch. Lemons are full-on tart, sour flavor with so much citric brightness. The ginger gives an incredible spicy note and makes it a bit robust and intense! Adding these two to hot water with a bit of sugar is a pretty perfect tea drink to get you through the colder months.
Turmeric and Black Pepper
One of the newer and most enjoyed combinations is turmeric and black pepper. This unusual blend of ingredients is often enjoyed in a turmeric latte. You can make a paste from something sweet, turmeric, black pepper, cardamom, and other spices and mix it with freshly steamed oat milk for a fabulous hot drink.
Turmeric contains this wonderful compound called curcumin. Curcumin is a wonderful anti-inflammatory ingredient that has been thought to help with arthritis and other inflammatory conditions. Black pepper contains a compound called piperine that helps to slow the breakdown of curcumin, making more of it available for absorption. This makes them perfect for each other!
Spinach and Blueberries
People are often made to feel concerned about their iron intake, especially vegans. Though most people are absolutely fine and will definitely notice if they’re deficient in iron, it is best to be preventative rather than reactive. So, we turn to two amazing ingredients that actually taste great together!
Spinach is an amazing iron source. You can eat loads of it as well, very easily. We recommend going to a grocer and getting good stuff rather than big supermarket spinach. Blueberries are a fabulous source of antioxidants and can help to clear the blood of harmful compounds. We love adding these two to a shake with a big dollop of peanut butter, some ice, and a banana for a lovely smoothie!
Quinoa and Sweet Potato
Another thing that is talked about to death when talking about the vegan diet is protein. We honestly never hear the end of it! There are a lot of generalizations about proteins, but we can all agree it is essential. Protein intake totally depends on your health goals, physical activity level, and body composition.
The conversation should really revolve around the quality of proteins. One fact that vegans need to be aware of is that all animal proteins are complete proteins, not all plants are. A complete protein contains all 14 amino acids that our body needs to survive. This is one thing that makes animal protein superior to plants.
However, with a bit of information, we can still thrive in the protein world! Quinoa is one of those plant proteins that is a complete protein. Combining some lovely quinoa with a baked sweet potato will load you with protein, carbs, and vitamins from the sweet potato. Buddha bowls are a go-to for us!
