Some people seem to have all the gardening luck; everyone knows someone whose plants seem to grow vigorously and healthily the moment they put them in soil. If you find your plants withering and dropping leaves every time you bring them back from the garden store, read on! We’ll be listing some of PlantX’s favorite plants for our readers with two brown thumbs.
EASY HOUSEPLANTS TO KEEP ALIVE
Air Plants
Our first recommendation for people whose plants seem to be cursed is air plants. These fanciful looking plants are called air plants because they draw most of their nutrients from the air around them. In nature, air plants grow on the trunks or branches of trees in tropical regions, allowing them to soak up moisture and nutrients without needing soil while also being high enough in the canopy areas to reach sunlight. This means that all you’ll need to grow a happy air plant is clean water! The simplest way to care for them is to keep them in direct sunlight and soak them in water once a week, from 15 to 30 minutes at a time, depending on the humidity.
Bamboo
Our second plant recommendation is a plant that thrives; it’s actually become a problem in some places! When planted outside, bamboo can quickly take over a backyard, so be sure you plant it in a container. You may find that bamboo is commonly given as a gift. This is because it’s thought to be good luck. Bamboo is a bit more particular than air plants: it needs direct sunlight and good drainage, and regular fertilizing with a high nitrogen fertilizer. If you keep your bamboo happy, you may need to get a larger pot sooner than you’d expect!
Pothos
Pothos, or Devil’s Ivy, has become hugely popular in the past few years. With its glossy, deep green leaves and trailing vines, this plant looks great in a hanging pot or on a shelf where it can hang loose. Pothos is also an excellent plant for any forgetful gardener. It prefers to have its soil dry out completely between waterings while also thriving in bright light or shady spots. When shopping for pothos, you’ll see plants with a wide variety of beautiful leaves, from white with green splotches to a dark blue, almost black hue. Now that you have some indoor plant inspiration, it’s time to go shopping for your ideal (nearly) invincible plant!
