Urcohuasi means House in the Mountains in Quechua, a language spoken by indigenous communities in Ecuador. Urcohuasi Farms chose this name as they are based in Tabacundo, near the Cayambe Volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes. Quinoa is native to this region of South America, where it has been eaten by locals for thousands of years. The hot, dry climate is ideal for growing the perfect quinoa, as the crop doesn’t need a lot of water to thrive. Urcohuasi Farms is a family-owned business passionate about encouraging sustainable lifestyles. They believe that eating more plants both helps the environment and improves our own health! Their quinoa is grown organically and they source additional ingredients for their products from other sustainable farms.
