Dubbed as the "vegan Amazon", PlantX will open its first United States retail store and café in San Diego's Hillcrest community.
Plant-based retail store and café
PlantX will open in San Diego in early 2021, moving into the 4,515 square-foot space that previously housed H2O Sushi in Hillcrest. The store will be the first United States outpost of Canadian e-commerce company Vegaste Technologies Corp., which launched in February 2020 and operates the PlantX online platform with more than 10,000 plant-based products ranging from cosmetics to clothing.
The new San Diego store will be a working prototype where consumers will be able to shop for products using the company’s mobile app, which will offer approximately 5,000 products, including its own private-brand items such as PlantX water, as well as Stay Wyld Organics vitamins and supplements, Mid-Day Squares chocolate bars, and other grocery items from popular brands. The shop will include amenities such as a plant-based education center, an onsite coffee shop, a restaurant with plant-based meals made by Los Angeles chef Gregg Drusinsky, and grab-and-go meals from PlantX’s meal delivery menu.
"The idea is for the San Diego location to help further that community vibe we have been creating online," explained Alexandra Hoffman, Vegaste Chief Marketing Officer. "We want customers to come in and feel like they can ask anything. Education is always behind everything we do at PlantX, so this store will be a place where people can come in and find new ways to enhance their healthy lifestyles."
The new U.S. store is part of a partnership with San Diego-based Liv Marketplace, which plans to establish and operate retail stores, coffee shops, and cafés across the country under the PlantX name. PlantX aims to open in first quarter 2021 at 3930 5th Avenue in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood. For more information, visit
