Frequently Asked Questions

Should vegans take vitamin B12 supplements?

It is very important for everyone to have a reliable source of vitamin B12. For those who don’t consume meat, eggs, milk products, or other animal-based products, getting the needed amount of vitamin B12 can be hard. The few reliable vegan sources for vitamin B12 are foods that are fortified with vitamin B12. If not wanting to rely on fortified foods, vitamin B12 supplements are a great option.

Although there is no harm in exceeding the recommended amount of vitamin B12 (the body will only absorb the needed amount and the excess is removed in urine), always speak to a health care professional before taking dietary supplements.
