What is the history behind Amy’s Kitchen?

When Rachel and Andy’s daughter Amy was born, it wasn’t just a new little girl the world gained - but Amy’s Kitchen too. A family company specializing in delicious, organic, ready-made vegetarian and vegan products.

While Rachel was pregnant and on bed rest with Amy, Andy was struck by the difficulty of finding tasty vegetarian ready-made products at their local supermarket. Quite simply, there was nothing organic or delicious. The remedy? Make their own! That’s where Amy’s Kitchen began.

From their family home in California, Amy’s Kitchen grew. First, a humble vegetable pot pie. Then, hoards of handwritten thank-you letters through the letterbox. Next, Amy’s was stocked on supermarket shelves, more recipes were created, the brand expanded to cater to people living with a diverse range of food allergies. This was something great…

Since 1987 things have changed. Amy is no longer little. She and her husband have a family of their own and are active in the business. Amy’s kitchen has expanded to a wonderful group of employees, farmers, and suppliers. However, one thing that has not and never will change is the family spirit from which Amy’s Kitchen was born.

Is Amy’s Kitchen a good brand?

Amy’s Kitchen doesn’t care about pleasing big shareholders, Amy’s cares about doing things the right way, with love, care, and pride. Even when it’s not easy. What does that mean exactly?

  • Organic farming: Organic farming is important to Amy’s. Why? It’s kind to the soil, it doesn’t strip it of nutrients and keeps it in good knick for future generations. It also prevents Amy’s farmers from being exposed to harmful pesticides or chemicals.
  • Non-GMO dishes: Customers have the right to know what they are putting inside their bodies. That's why all Amy’s dishes are GMO-free and Amy’s is an avid supporter of GMO labeling initiatives.
  • Ingredients picked with care: Amy’s pours heart and soul into every dish. Amy’s has earned a reputation of being too picky amongst suppliers, but they wouldn’t have it any other way. They accept only the best for their delicious dishes filled with care.
  • Home-cooked goodness: Amy’s believes cooking should be done by hand, so that’s just what they do. Hand-rolled burritos and enchiladas, hand-stretched crusts, and tortillas, toppings sprinkled by hand, sauces and tofu made from scratch, and each recipe tasted again and again - you can guarantee home-cooked perfection in each dish.

That’s that. Things done the right way. For customers, employees, and our precious earth. The result? Products filled with love that you taste with every bite.
