Product Overview

Pinot Noir is a famously fickle grape to grow, which requires a whole lot of love in order to flourish. For Pino Cellars’ winemaker, Joshua Maloney, this affectionate process makes it all the more special once you get to sip the finished product. Having studied Chemistry at Cornell, it’s safe to say this man puts his knowledge into practice when it comes to vinification. For Joshua, wine is drinkable art, capable of evoking just as much emotion as a beautiful painting, or a mellifluous piece of music. Crafted in Oregon, his passion is palpable from the first sip of this 2019 Pinot Noir. Light to medium-bodied, with classic notes of black cherry and strawberry that are so recognizable from a good Pinot, this is truly a wine for any time. Slightly chilled, it would make a superb aperitif, its lengthy finish satiating between every sip. It would also be perfectly paired with wild mushroom risotto, an underlying earthiness matching those of the mushrooms.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Pinot Noir such a special grape?

One of the ‘Nine Noble Grapes’, Pinot Noir can be one of the trickiest to grow, mostly owing to its thin skin. This thinness not only means fewer tannins, generally resulting in a lighter wine than many of its vinous counterparts, it also makes it more vulnerable to weather changes. And, to top it off, it is also more prone to disease owing to the way it grows in tight clusters. It’s safe to say that this is one needy grape, which requires a serious amount of tender loving care. But, when it all pays off, the result is a magical elixir, rich in cherries and berries, yet refreshing and light enough to enjoy alone, as well as alongside food.
