From the Sierra Foothills between Sacramento and Nevada, Chacewater presents their 2017 ‘Highlander Red’, a bold Californian Bordeaux Blend. Grapes sourced from organic vineyards give the wine a deep magenta color and a mild nose of plum and vanilla. The first sip reveals its floral, fruity character, with notes of cranberry, strawberry, raspberry, and dark fruits. It is dry, fairly tannic with an underlying minerality.
Medium-bodied with a slightly acidic kick, it boasts a good depth of flavor. On the fade, earthy notes of oak, pepper, cloves, and black olives lend this rare red blend a slow, graceful finish. Flavorful yet smooth, Chacewater’s ‘Highlander Red’ is perfect for a candlelit date night at any time of the year. Impress your date and pair it with a hearty Italian dish, such as plant-based eggplant rollatini or vegan cannoli.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the story behind the Chacewater winery?
Chacewater is a family-owned winery run by Paul and Kellye Manuel. After graduating high school, Paul worked construction for several years on 80 acres outside Nevada City, California. In 1988, when a fire destroyed the business, Paul’s Cornish mining roots led him back to the land. He took a chance and turned his patch into a vineyard. Lucky for us, this risk paid off! The region’s warm weather and high altitudes produce an exceptional quality of grape that make ripe red wines. Over the years, Chacewater has expanded considerably and in 2012 was named the Golden State Winery of the Year. Today, Matt, the youngest of Paul and Kellye’s sons, manages their Ponderosa Vineyards. Born the same month the first vineyards were planted on the land, Matt is passionate about organic farming and healthy, high-quality grapes.
