ABOUT SPATHIPHYLLUM “PEACE LILY”

Spathiphyllum, more commonly known as the Peace Lily, is a flowering plant native to the tropical regions of America and Southeast Asia. A few times a year, this indoor plant will reward you with a striking spadix flower surrounded by an elegant white spathe — hence the name. Peace Lily’s are an evergreen perennial and will reward you with their beautiful folded flower a few times each year. The plant is usually grown indoors and thrives best in the shade. Each size will arrive pre-potted in a standard plastic nursery pot.

LIKES

Peace Lily enjoys the shade and requires minimal watering. Keep your plant looking neat by clipping dead leaves at the base of the plant near the soil line and provide a balanced fertilizer every 3 months for your Peace Lily to thrive.

DISLIKES

Although it’s adapted to a wide temperature range, Peace Lily will do best in areas of moderate temperature that avoid cold drafts and bright direct sunlight. Avoid overwatering by allowing the soil to dry the first 3 inches between each watering session.

HEALTH BENEFITS

The Peace Lily, aside from being a great addition to a home or an office, is a natural air purifier. When placed on a desk, it can even help improve your mental health and focus. In NASA’s Clean Air Study, researchers also found out that the Peace Lily cleans the air of benzene and formaldehyde, two of the most common gaseous environmental contaminants.

LOOKING AFTER THE PLANT

The plant is easy to care for and does not require much sunlight. Place your plant in an area with only a sufficient amount of light to keep your Peace Lily blooming. Thoroughly water your plant once a week, but avoid overwatering. Occasionally mist your plant’s leaves to wash off accumulated dust. Don’t repot the plant too often. Peace Lily blooms better when slightly pot-bound.

PLANT CARE WITH PETS AND CHILDREN

Though called a “lily,” the Peace Lily isn’t a true lily, so it’s only mildly toxic to pets and humans when ingested. It’s best to keep the plant away from pets and children.
