How to Care for Anthurium ‘Nebraska Orange’

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light with no direct sun. The direct sun will burn the Anthuriums’ leaves and flowers.
  • Water: Allow the top 2” of the soil to dry in between watering. Anthuriums are susceptible to root rot.
  • Humidity: Average relative humidity of 25% to 49%
  • Temperature: Average from 18°C to 24°C (65°F - 75°F)
  • Fertilizer: Follow a monthly fertilizing schedule when the plant is actively growing. In most cases, this is in the spring and summer. Use a balanced fertilizer - this means a ratio of NPK that is all the same. Ex: 10-10-10. High phosphorus will promote blooms.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining, high organic matter soil mix.
  • Propagation: Division
  • Repotting: This can be done every 12-18 months. Choose a pot that is 2” larger in diameter than the original pot.
  • Cleaning Tip: Wipe the leaves every few weeks to remove debris
  • Toxicity: Toxic. Keep away from pets and children.

Anthurium ‘Nebraska Orange’ - Common Problems

The older leaves are turning yellow: This is a natural process that occurs as the plant matures. If the new growth begins to turn yellow, check the roots for possible signs of overwatering.

The tips of the leaves are turning brown: Anthurium plants love humidity. Up the humidity by misting or placing your plant on a humidity tray. Ensure your plant is away from direct sunlight.

The leaves are curling: This could mean the plant needs water, check the soil moisture and water accordingly. If the soil is moist, check the roots for any rot.

Signs of Overwatering: New growth becomes soft and brown and the leaves begin to drop.

Common Pests: Spider mites, mealybugs, fungus gnats, and scale.
