Eggs are not vegan. Vegans exclude all forms of exploitation and cruelty to animals for food, clothing and other purposes. Most eggs come from commercial farms where the hens are kept in small battery cages inside which they cannot move around freely. As the eggs hatch, the male chicks are killed after 15 minutes. In some countries, the male chicks are gassed while in some countries, the chicks are tipped into a grinding machine and killed.
Farmers always attempt to increase profit by making their hens lay more eggs. They usually retire their hens after they become 18 months old because their egg laying capacity starts declining after that age. The average lifespan of a hen is about 10 years, meaning that when the hens are taken to slaughter, they are merely teenagers.
Hens live in poor conditions inside commercial farms and the farmers often alter the light to get the hens lay more eggs. All the cruel practices in commercial farms are reasons enough for vegans to exclude eggs from their diet.
